ISLAMABAD: Riot police on Thursday night conducted crackdown against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) public event continued in Taj Marquee Hall of federal capital Islamabad.

Several PTI workers and local leaders were arrested during the surprise raid conducted by police officials besides lodging baton charge which injured many women political workers.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Vice-Chairman of the party has strongly condemned the incident and stated that police have tortured peaceful members of the party.

While talking to media, PTI vice president Shah Mehmood Qureshi said police officials have illegally tortured PTI workers while no violation of Section 144 was made as the political event was conducted inside the hall. He questioned the elements which ordered torture on PTI workers and women.

The development has come in the same day when Section-144 was imposed in Islamabad which disallowed gathering of people across the city and permitted the law enforcement agencies to subject the violators to penalties.

Qureshi asserted that he had telephoned Deputy Commissioner (DC) around three hours ago and informed him about the ongoing convention, responding to which the officer allegedly assured Qureshi of contacting him in a while back to clear standing of the department in the matter.

He further said that the tortured persons included women members of the political party. Qureshi lambasted the government for revealing its ‘true face’.

Two of the party leaders, present at the scene, Qureshi and Asad Umar demanded Assistant Commissioner (AC) concerned to come see them and answer their questions.

Shah Mehmood and Asad Umar, after clearing party s stance announced that they were leaving for Commissioner s office right away to seek answers for the brutality.
