Pakistani planes carrying relief goods left for Nepal, death toll continues to rise

ISLAMABAD/KATHMANDU: Pakistan’s  two C-130 aircraft left for Nepal on Tuesday carrying relief goods for the survivors.

 The quake-hit Nepal  has asked foreign countries to wrap up search and rescue operations in the country.

The death toll has surpassed 7,366 people and more than 14000 were injured in the deadly earthquake.

According to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the relief goods include seven hundred tents and four hundred kilograms medicines.

As many as 112 foreigners were still missing including 60 European citizens.

Life has become normal in capital Kathmandu while relief work started after delay of many days in far flung areas with the help of helicopters.

United Nation’s World Food Program and several other international organizations started distribution of food in the quake-hit areas for the first time.

United Nation International Children Education Fund (UNICEF) said that as many as 1.7 million children were affected by the quake and they deprived off family, home, schools and other basic fundamental needs.

Earlier, two C-130 aircraft had arrived in Kathmandu from Pakistan on May 2. According to an Inter-Services Public Relations statement, around 600 tents, 33 boxes of medicines and other items were sent for the quake victims initially.

Seven Nepalese doctors studying in Pakistan had also departed for Nepal the same day.
