Life in Dubai came to stand still as the United Arab Emirates experienced the highest rainfall in its modern history.

Many buildings, villas, and townhouse communities in Sharjah and Dubai have been without electricity following heavy downpours since Tuesday, Khaleej Times reported.

Some of the blocks in the aforementioned areas are with electricity and internet since 3am on Tuesday.

The UAE witnessed a record rainfall with 254mm falling in Al Ain on Tuesday in less than 24 hours, according to the national meteorology centre.

As per reports, an elderly Emirati man in his 70s died on Tuesday morning when his vehicle was caught in flash floods in the Ras Al Khaimah emirate, in the country’s north.

Moreover, Dubai International Airport said it was facing significant disruptions after the thundershowers delayed or diverted flights and had impacted flight crews.

Passengers departing Dubai were advised against heading to the airport and to check their flight status with their airline.
