RAWALPINDI: Former president and co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari has been summoned by the Rawalpindi Accountability Court in a reference accusing him and his late wife, Benazir Bhutto of acquiring assets illegally.
The Rawalpindi Accountability Court on Friday heard National Accountability Bureau (NAB) appeal against the PPP co-chairman and ordered the former president to appear before the court on April 27.
The NAB Special Prosecutor Raja Khurram Ejaz asked the court to reopen the asset reference after five years, arguing that Zardari’s presidential immunity has expired and he can be tried in the court.
In 2010, the PPP led government had closed the reference against the former president.
