Rangers detains 74 suspects in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers on Friday arrested 74 suspects including 15 activists belonging to different political parties and banned outfits during targeted operations in different parts of the metropolis Karachi.

Rangers sources said that huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered in the raids. Rangers hold the targeted operations in Purana Golimar, Lyari, Azizabad and other areas of the city.

Five suspects were arrested in Lyari for allegedly having links with ‘gang-war’ mafia. Arms and ammunition in big quantity was recovered from their possession.

A worker of a Karachi-based political party was arrested from Khadda Market area of Lyari and taken to an undisclosed location for further interrogation while two were taken into custody from Agra Taj locality of the neighborhood.

Rangers and police carried out joint raids in several areas of metropolis and arrested 65 criminals and terrorists including three suspected extortionists. Nine among them allegedly belonged to a banned organization.

The decision about the latest crackdown on criminals was taken at high-level security meeting chaired by DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar on Thursday.
