ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways will purchase 800 hopper wagons from China by the end of this year for transportation of coal.
The wagons will be purchased from Jinan Railway Vehicles Equipment Company Ltd and China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), sources in the Ministry of Railways told the media.
These wagons will be used for the transportation of coal from Karachi and Qadirabad coal power plants, they added.
They said that the Pakistan Railways would save Rs 6 billion every year after the induction of these wagons in the system while Rs one billion have been saved by retendering of the wagons.
Sources said that 205 of total 800 wagons would be manufactured in China while 595 wagons would be made in Pakistan Railways workshop at Mughulpura.
