We don't want confrontation with opposition: Qureshi

HYDERABAD: Foreign Minister and Senior Vice-Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the PTI government doesn’t believe in restrictions on the media. However, he said that the government wants the media to play its role with responsibility.

Addressing a presser here, the foreign minister said the changes to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) were not intended to silent the media. He was of the view that any curbs were not workable in the present day.

Qureshi said that the real objective was that the media should continue performing with full freedom with responsibility.

The foreign minister while offering an olive branch to media houses, said that the political parties and media were inseparable. The PTI government is ready to sit with the media representatives to discuss the issue and find a solution.

Qureshi said that there is no harm in discussing the issue, adding that PTI is not unaware  of media’s role that is being seen the world over.

Last week, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had said that Zardari would not be able to mislead our parliamentarians.

Talking to media in Mirpurkhas, Qureshi had said that problems can be solved through dialogue and diplomacy and we have a clear position that war is not the solution to problems.

He said that Pakistan was at war for 20 years and suffered economic losses.

“The escalation of the Russia-Ukraine war will be detrimental to all European countries, but we will not be part of any group,” he said.

Munir Akram presented Pakistan’s position on Russia-Ukraine conflict in a better way, Qureshi said.

The foreign minister said that he had talked to his Polish counterpart and he gave a positive impression.
