Islamabad: Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has warned the provinces about water scarcity, saying the water shortfall could reach 25 to 30 per cent.
According to IRSA, Punjab and Sindh are currently facing 18 per cent shortfall while the situation could worsen due to low temperature on glaciers. Care should be taken in the use of water until conditions return to normal.
Tarbela and Mangla continue to discharge more than the inflow of water while the supply of water from Mangla to Sindh has been increased to 8000 cusecs. Discharge was increased from 50,000 cusecs to 58,000 cusecs.
Irsa has requested cooperation from Punjab and asked the provincial irrigation department to inform its field staff in this regard.
