Proper prcoessing may rise export of poultry to $2b: UVAS VC

LAHORE: A proper processing system in the country may boost the export of poultry products to $ 2.0 billion.

This was said by University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Naseer Pasha while talking to APP on Sunday.

He said poultry products had great export potential and good market for its export particularly in middle and far East countries, central states and Russia. He added that export of poultry meat would also uplift the economic condition of poultry farmers besides boosting the agriculture sector.

The government should pay heed to evolve a processing system of poultry products with the help private sector.

He said the livestock sector contributed 55 per cent to agriculture GDP and 12 including 4 per cent of poultry products to the national GDP.

He said poultry was the most vibrant sector in the country with an annual growth of 8-10 per cent. He also spoke about the constraints and problems of the livestock sector of the country.

The vice chancellor said the UVAS was closely working with Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab and private sector for its development.
