Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurates Rs 3.5 billion Green Pakistan Programme

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the National Green Day by planting a sappling along with special children at Prime Minister Secretariat in Islamabad on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said one hundred million trees will be planted during the next five years. He said an allocation of Rs 3.5 billion has made and matching grants will be given by the Provinces to make the country green.He said only Rs 500 million will be spent in Islamabad while the rest will be used in the Provinces. He said all provincial Government departments, elected local leadership as well as students and civil society organizations have been directed to take part in the national plantation of hundreds of thousands of “indigenous and local” tree species. The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the programme will bring green revolution in Pakistan. The project will also increase wild life and facilitate its protection. He said this day will be celebrated every year on the 9th of February as the extensive cutting down of trees has adversely affected the climate. The PM said the Government will strictly monitor the implementation of Green Pakistan programme.
Later, he had photos with the special children and wished them health and prosperity.
In Quetta, Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai and CM Balochistan Sanaullah Khan Zehri inaugurated Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Programme by planting saplings at the Governor House and the Chief Minister House on Thursday. INP
