ISLAMABAD: Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control, Chaudhry Nisar on Friday alleged that previous governments were involved in irregular issuances of national identity cards to foreigners. He said the current government has blocked 4.5 lakh national identity cards so far.

Chaudhry Nisar, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad, said the accused involved in terrorism related incidents in foreign countries were not Pakistanis. He claimed that the Pakistani passports were used for human trafficking during tenures of previous governments.

Nisar said the federal government paid due attention on matter of fake national identities. He detailed that 32,500 passports, 4.5 lakh Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) and 9.5 crore SIMs were blocked during last 90 days. He said it was not an easy task while many faced trouble over blockage of passports.

He said procedure for restoration of CNICs was also formulated as an 18-member committee was formed to review wrong blockage of CNICs. Moreover, restoration of CNICs will be made by Revenue Department after producing record of 1978.
