President for provision of education to poor segment of society

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain Tuesday directed that a comprehensive strategy should be pursued to provide education to the illiterate children of poorer segment of the society, making them financially stable.

The President was talking to Minister of State for Federal Education Engr. Baligh-ur-Rehman who called on him along with Chairperson National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) Razina Alam at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

They also presented the annual report of NCHD to the President, a press release said.

The President commended the services of NCHD for increasing literacy rate and said that remuneration of the teachers serving in rural areas should be equal to other government employees so that their needs were met and quality of education was improved.

“For this reason, the relevant departments should be directed to provide all necessary facilities to the teachers in line with the decisions of the government”, he added.

President Mamnoon Hussain praised the efforts of NCHD for providing education to children in jails and illiterate adults and observed that education and training of the students done in conformity with cultural values was more effective.

He said in this regard, the character building programme of NCHD would be more useful.
