President accords assent to Constitution’s 22nd Amendment Bill

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday accorded his assent to the the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment Bill, 2016, that envisages the qualifications and procedure for appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The President approved the summary initiated by Senate Secretariat, on the advice of the Prime Minister.

The bill states that in case there is no consensus between the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition over appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner, then both of them shall send separate lists to the Parliamentary Committee for consideration, and the committee shall approve one of them.

The President also gave his assent to the Delimitation of Constituencies (Amendment) Bill, 2016 on a summary initiated by National Assembly Secretariat on the advice of the Prime Minister.
