LAHORE: Opposing any move to give extension in services to Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Leader of Opposition in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan on Monday predicted that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) did not seem to complete its tenure.
The services of the COAS for the nation would be remembered in history, however, the People’s Party (PPP) was not in favour of extension in his services, he said while talking to media-persons here.
Aitzaz said the army chief had taken bold steps in the best national interest. The launch of the successful operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists (in North Waziristan) was the big achievement of the army chief, but as per Constitution, he had to retire at the specific time.
The mistakes committed by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had cost him in the past and this time again his government was not going to complete its term, he added.
Replying to a question, the opposition leader said that Pakistan was not involved in any act of terrorism in India. The two countries’ ties should improve at all costs.
Aitzaz Ahsan said that the PPP had nothing to do with terrorism. If Dr Asim was involved in corruption then action should be taken against him, he added
