PPP takes out rally to pay tributes to Karsaz blast victims

KARACHI: A `Salam Shuhada’ rally is being taken out here on Sunday by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to pay tributes to the party workers who were killed in a blast at Karsaz here on October 18, 2007.

Chairman of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, alonwith party leaders on board, a specially prepared truck, was leading the rally, which commenced from Bilawal House on Sunday afternoon.

The route of the rally includes old city area, Lee market, M.A. Jinnah Road and Shahrah-e-Quaideen.

Tight security arrangements have been made for the rally.

The Traffic police have made alternate arrangements to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city.

In his first address to the participants of the rally at Bilawal Chowrangi, the PPP chairman said, “Today we are paying tributes to the party workers at the rally in Karsaz on October 18, 2007 in which 177 `Janisar’ of the party were killed and 630 were injured.”

That was the biggest terrorist attack on any political gathering, he added.

He said that the PPP leader Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was martyred in another terrorist attack on December 27, 2007.

Bilawal said that Benazir Bhutto had returned to Pakistan to eradicate the menace of terrorism, poverty, unemployment, sectarianism from the country.

Bilawal recalled that he had said at the demise of Benazir Bhutto that democracy is the best revenge and Asif Zardari had raised the slogan `Pakistan Khapay’.

The PPP chairman said, “We restored democracy and put the country on the path of development.” —APP
