Power crisis cannot end before March 2018, says Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday said that load-shedding cannot come to an end before March 2018.

While addressing a seminar over national economy, Ishaq Dar said that the government was currently working on several short and long term power projects including construction of dams so as to resolve power issue.

Criticizing baseless allegations of opposition parties, the minister suggested to separate politics from economy and termed Pakistan’s economical expansion crucial for the development.

Talking about China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Ishaq Dar told that CPEC was not just a name of a road or railway system but a mega project as it would not only beneficial for Pakistan but also for the region.

Dar stated that expanded economy has caused massive increase in foreign exchange whereas the federation is also focusing on returning debt to International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The federal minister finally accepted that youth’s unemployment leads to their association in terrorist and other heinous activities. He pledged to combat poverty at earliest and assured provision of enormous resources.

Power cuts have worsened in Pakistan in recent years, becoming one of the main sources of discontent in the country. Parts of Pakistan face power cuts of up to 8-10 hours per day, undermining the country s weak economy and increasing hardship for citizens. Anger periodically boils over into violent protests.

Earlier, PM Nawaz also vowed to eradicate power outage by 2018. The premier added that ensuring cheap electricity is government’s top priority. He said that power tariff will be reduced to half. Nawaz stated that the government is devoted to bring back the lights of the entire country.
