MULTAN: Polling is underway in by-polls of Punjab provincial assembly seat PP-196 which was vacated after disqualification of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) candidate Waheed Arayin.
As many as 14 members are contesting the election including candidates of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and ruling party who lost this seat due to disqualification of his provincial legislator.
According to provincial Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) polling which began at 8 am will last till 5 pm adding that 133 polling stations have been established for the by-poll of whom 47 have been declared sensitive.
There are 176,315 registered voters on the seat.
It is pertinent to mention here that disqualified PML-N candidate was also minister for prisons in the provincial cabinet and he was disqualified for having dual identity cards.
Tough competition is expected on the seat among candidates of PML-N’s Rana Mahmood, PTI’s Rana Abdul Jabbar, PPP’s Muhammad Hussain.
