KARACHI: Local bodies polls are being held on Saturday ( today) in as many as 42 cantonment areas across the country after a gap of 17 years.
According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) around 1151 candidates are contesting the elections of whom 541 are on party tickets while remaining numbers as independent one. Over 1.8 million citizens living in the cantonment areas countrywide are exercising their right to vote in order to elect councilors on 199 general seats today.
The polling started at 8 am sharp at it will continue without any interruption till 5 pm in evening.
At least 2 million ballot papers have been published. The elections will be held on 199 general seats of whom highest numbers are 32 in Karachi.
Lahore has 20 seats while Rawalpindi, Chaklala, Sargodha, Wah Cant, Hyderabad have 10 seats each.
Furthermore, Peshawar, Okara, Quetta, Sialkot and Abbotabad also have 10 seats.
