Police raid Gutka factory in Karachi’s Godhra area

KARACHI: Police on Thursday raided a Gutka factory and arrested its owner in the Godhra neighbourhood.

On the instructions of SSP Central Arif Aslam Rao, a police party led by SHO New Karachi Industrial Area Younus Khattak raided a gutka factory and arrested its owner identified as Muhammad Iqbal, son of Ahmed, in the Godhra area. An accomplice of the factory owner had managed to flee from the scene.

During the raid, the police seized 25 kilograms of gutka, 60 kilograms of betel nuts (chalia) and other material used in gutka preparation.

Police have registered a case under the Gutka and Mainpuri Act 2019 against the arrested factory owner.

Last year, the Sindh Assembly had passed the Sindh Prohibition of Preparation, Manufacturing, Storage, Sale and Use of Gutka and Manpuri Bill, 2019.

Under the bill, the sale and purchase of gutka and mainpuri and its import and export is banned in the province.
