Police nab 39 accused; seize 2638 kites, 51 string rolls

Kite flying now non-bailable offense

RAWALPINDI: Police in its crackdown against kite-sellers and kite-flyers on Friday arrested 39 and seized 2638 kites with 51 kite flying string rolls from the possession of the accused.

According to a police spokesman, police have also set up special observation posts (OPs) on high-rise buildings in the town particularly in congested areas aimed at controlling kite flying and aerial firing.

He said, the policemen deployed at the posts have also been provided night vision goggles.

He informed that CPO has urged the parents to come forward and play a role to check their children from kite flying which is a dangerous game.

He said, police on the special directive of City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi conducted raids in different areas and netted the rules violators.

Naseerabad police held accused Arslan Babar for having 250 kites. Saddar Wah police netted accused Ashfaq, Jand and Hanif and recovered 1800 kites with three string rolls.

Rattaamral police arrested accused Zahid, Shujja Hussain and Abdul Waheed on recovery of 85 kites and 11 string rolls.

Pirwadhai police seized 170 kites and string rolls from accused Hamza.

Waris Khan police nabbed accused Ibraheem, Yasir, Muhammad Ali and Owais for carrying 58 kites and five string rolls.

Other kite flyers and kite sellers were also sent behind the bars.

He said the raids would continue to ensure implementation the ban on kite-flying. Strict action in accordance with the law would be taken against the rules violators, he added.
