Ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has changed plan to contest upcoming NA-19 Haripur by-election scheduled on August 16 on the vacant seat of former lawmaker Omar Ayub Khan removed post verdict of apex court.
PML-N decided to launch Baber Khan in the by-election this time following orders of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the constituency where the election is being organised second time over the last 17 months.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced schedule that set up filing of nomination papers on July 5 and July 6 while scrutiny of papers will begin on July 8 and July 9 while any objections will be accepted on July 11.
Earlier, the seat fell vacant when a three-member bench of the Supreme Court released Omar Ayub Khan from his duties post review petition filed against by former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Dr Raja Amir Zaman who had won the election on May 11, 2013 but PML-N candidate grabbed victory on NA-19 after re-polling in seven polling stations.
