PM to visit Washington to attend nuclear security summit: Nafees Zakaria

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said that Pakistan achieved major successes in the war on terror.

At his weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, he said Pakistan is cooperating with the international community to root out this common phenomenon.

The spokesperson said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will visit Washington to attend the nuclear security summit on 31st of this month.

He said Pakistan’s participation in the summit at the level of the prime minister manifests the importance Pakistan attaches to the nuclear security.

To a question about meeting between the prime ministers of Pakistan and India on the side-line of the nuclear summit, the spokesperson said no formal proposal has been received in this regard from the Indian side, however, the leaders get the opportunity for interaction at such conferences.

To a question about hoisting of Pakistani flags in Occupied Kashmir, the spokesperson said it is a reflection of what the Kashmiris want.

On a question about Daesh, Nafees Zakaria once again rejected any organized presence of the outfit in Pakistan.

About Afghan peace process, the spokesperson said efforts are underway to bring the Afghan government and Taliban to the negotiating table.

He emphasized there is no military solution to the Afghan problem. He said Pakistan has a vital stake for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
