Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif upon his return to the country summoned an emergency meeting just a day after a magnitude 7.5 quake hit the Pak-Afghan region.
The Chairman National Disaster Management Authority will brief the PM about the damages caused by the calamity and measures taken by the national and provincial authorities for rescue and relief of affected people.
The meeting will be attended amongst others by the federal ministers, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan, and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.
At least 228 people have been confirmed dead in the aftermath of the earthquake which hit northern Afghanistan and Pakistan on Monday afternoon. The NDMA says at least 1,620 are injured across Pakistan.
The toll is expected to rise as search teams reach remote areas that have been cut off due to landslides and destruction caused by the earthquake.
