ISLAMABAD: PML-N leaders say Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family are ready to appear before the Supreme Court-led judicial commission if it will summon them first.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Tuesday evening, Chairman Privatization Commission Muhammad Zubair said prime minister is being targeted for political reasons, Radio Pakistan reported.

He challenged the opposition to present any precedent in which father was held responsible for the deeds of his children. He said Nawaz Sharif’s name is not mentioned in Panama Papers and only his children are included in the leaks.

He said investigation should be held in light of the fundamental rights, Pakistan and International laws. The chairman said it will not be allowed to reinvent laws.

He said Imran Khan has never filed any tax returns in 20 years and he should also be held accountable for that. Speaking on the occasion, PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz said Supreme Court’s judges are fully empowered to rephrase ToRs and start investigations according to their own priority. He said PML-N does not have any objection if the commission starts investigation from the prime minister and his family, but it should not be dictated by any quarters.

Daniyal Aziz said opposition is trying to protect their own leaders, whose names have been leaked in Panama Papers and only targeting the prime minister. He said formation of judicial commission was the demand of the opposition and the prime minister has written a letter to the chief justice of the apex court for this purpose and now it should not try to run away from the accountability.

He said names of Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, PTI leaders Aleem Khan, Jahangir Tareen, and PML-Q leader Moonas Ilahi are also mentioned in the Panama Papers and now they are avoiding accountability.
