MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday said he would forcefully highlight Kashmir issue at upcoming session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The Prime Minister gave the assurance to the leaders of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) belonging to Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chapter, in a meeting held here before departure of Mr Nawaz Sharif for the United Nations to take them onboard where he is due to address the world leaders at the 71st UNGA session.
“Oppression is destined to end, and truth will prevail,” he said in reference to the ongoing brutalities against Kashmiris.
The Prime Minister said he would also take up the issue of Kashmir during his bilateral meetings with different world leaders. He held out an assurance that Pakistan would continue its moral, diplomatic and political support for right of self-determination of Kashmiri people.
Mian Nawaz Sharif said the international community too has accepted the right of self-determination of Kashmiris. He urged the United Nations to fulfill its pledge to Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination as per resolutions of the world body. He said Pakistan would raise Kashmir issue at every global forum.
The Prime Minister regretted that brutalities against people of Occupied Kashmir have reached to the extreme. He said Kashmiris are demanding nothing but justice and right of self-determination.
He said history bears testimony to the fact that such movements cannot be suppressed through use of force. He expressed the confidence that the movement of Kashmiris would succeed. Hurriyat leaders thanked the Prime Minister for taking them into confidence before embarking upon his US visit.
AJK President Masood Khan and Prime Minister Sardar Farooq Haider were also present during the meeting.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ch. Barjees Tahir and Special Assistants to Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi and Dr. Asif Kirmani accompanied the Prime Minister. —INP
