ISLAMABAD: The prime minister has no constitutional right to give the COAS extension in his tenure, says a detailed verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the Army Chief Gen Bajwa’s extension case here on Monday.
The detailed judgement comprising 39 pages was penned by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
The three-year extension given to the COAS has no legal status, the verdict says.
If a legislation is not made within the given six months, then COAS Gen Bajwa will retire and the president will appoint a new Army Chief, the verdict added.
Last month, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had reserved judgment in the COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa’s tenure case.
