PM, COAS agree to avoid use of force against protesters

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday agreed to resolve the Islamabad sit-in issue peacefully.

Both the leaders were also agreed not to use force against the protesters.

During the meeting, they also exchanged views on the situation emerged after the crackdown on protesters.

About the interior ministry’s notification calling out the Army for deployment in the capital, the Army Chief said that it needs some explanation as the notice carries sensitivity.

He said that the Army would act upon every order in line with the Constitution, however, there is no need to send more troops, adding that power should not be used against own people. The prime minister was also agreed with the COAS on avoiding use of force against the masses.

However, the prime minister explained that the government had taken action on the court orders.

Sources said that the COAS had voiced concern over the suspension of broadcast of news channels. He also suggested to public Raja Zafarul Haq’a report on amendment in the Constitutional clause related to Khatam-e-Nabuwat (PBUH).
