Pharmaceutical companies demand rates’ hike of medicines

LAHORE: Pharmaceutical companies have appealed the government to increase the prices of various medicines by two to eight times as the meeting of the Drug Pricing Committee (DPC) has been summoned on August 30.

Sources indicate that the prices of 507 medicines related to the liver, kidneys, heart and stomach shall increase. Prices of inhalers used by asthma patients, injections, syrups and antibiotics are also expected to increase.

According to reports, Pharmaceutical companies demanded the government to increase the price of morphine injection from Rs 2000 to Rs 4000. The price of antifungal medicine voriconazole shall also increase from Rs 400 to one thousand rupees, threads used in sewing of stitches shall also rise from Rs 6 thousand to Rs 40 thousand whereas the price of injection used in anesthesia is expected to increase from Rs 1700 to Rs 3658.
