ISLAMABAD: Kashmir Highway has been closed for traffic on the site of Peshawar Mor Interchange till Thursday, for ensuring completion of the Rs5 billion project by March 23, said an official of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA).

Talking to media, he said the project, tipped as the largest interchange in South Asia spreading over four kilometers, will be instrumental in solving the traffic problems of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

He said the interchange site would remain closed for traffic from Saturday to Thursday (February 20 to 25). A comprehensive diversion plan has already been devised to facilitate motorists.

According to the plan, traffic coming from Motorway/Golra Mor and Karachi Company would move towards Zero Point by using Rohtas Road, Neelum Road and Jhelum Road.

Likewise, traffic moving towards Zero Point would reach Karachi Company/Golra Mor and Motorway by using Ashfaq Ahmed Road, Sufi Tabassum Road and PTV road.

The interchange project, being constructed at the junction of the Kashmir Highway and the 9th Avenue, is equally shared by Federal and the Punjab governments.

The total length of the underground, overhead and ramp roads was 14-kilometres with a width of one-and-a-half kilometre.

As many as eight flyover and many roads will be part of the project.

Low relaxation imported steel has been used in girders and their life span will be over 100 years.
