LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Shaharyar Khan has sought the support and cooperation of Vice Chancellors of Universities across the country to revive university cricket.
“Chairman PCB, Shaharyar Khan, took advantage of attending all Pakistan universities Vice-Chancellor’s meeting here on Tuesday and pointed out the steep declining in university cricket.
He said that in 1950’s and 60’s the nucleus of the Pakistan Team was selected from the universities mainly in Punjab and Sindh.
The decline has shown that universities are no longer producing national players and have lost their first class status. They do not even qualify for grade-II cricket.
He promised PCB support to achieve this objective. Chairman stated that his remarks referred to both men and women’s cricket in the universities.
Finally Chairman proposed a 5 member committee comprising HEC, VC’s representative and PCB in order to proceed with the revival of university cricket.
