Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will not be renewing the central contracts of former Twenty20 Skipper Shahid Afridi and off-spinner Saeed Ajmal as they are not representing the country in any format anymore.

Prior to this the PCB renewed the central contracts for a period of July 2015 to June 2016. PCB also put a raise by 10% in the monthly salary plus match fee. Team and Individual performances bonuses were also added in all four categories including A, B, C and D.

Afridi was then placed in category A (Rs 500,000 monthly) while Ajmal was included in Category B (Rs 345,000).

Talking to APP, a PCB official made it clear that when a player is not representing the country in any format then how he could be included in the list of central contracts. “The PCB will renew the central contracts for a period of six months or a year,” he said.

He said the centrals contracts are all finalized, it’s now the players who have to sign it. “The contracts can be announced during the series against West Indies or just after it ends,” he said.

It may be mentioned that Afridi was to play a farewell match in the upcoming series against West Indies but that was also put on hold by the PCB.

The PCB wanted to honor Afridi and Ajmal with fitting send-offs where it was likely that they would also announce their retirements. But the official said that no farewell event is yet planned on the board’s book.

Meanwhile Ajmal has declined the farewell event from PCB saying he had no intention of quitting and will keep on playing domestic cricket.
