SLAMABAD: The joint sitting of the parliament on Monday approved Pakistan International Airline’s privatization bill 2016, the bill to turn the national carrier into public limited company.
The house passed the bill without any objection from the opposition as, the sources said, the government and opposition had already reached a consensus on the bill.
The committee was constituted by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to settle the issue amicably.
Earlier today, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) decided to extend conditional support to the federal government for passing PIA (conversion) bill in joint sitting of the Parliament.
The bill was adopted by the National Assembly (NA) in February amid opposition boycott. Federal Minister Zahid Hamid tabled the bill in the house.
