The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has announced to make Panama Papers’ data public on May 09 which will contain information on over 200,000 offshore companies including names of about 200 Pakistanis.
ICIJ reported that the forthcoming database will include information about more than 100,000 additional companies that were part of the 2013 ICIJ Offshore Leaks investigation.
“The selected and limited information is being published in the public interest,” the statement added. However, the statement said it will not release personal ata en masse while the database will not include records of bank accounts and financial transactions, emails and other correspondence, passports and telephone numbers.
It should be mentioned here that the leaks forced governments across the globe to initiate thorough probes into allegations of offshore companies for tax evasions by prominent personalities.
‘Panama Papers’ comprised some 11.5 million documents covering four decades from the Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca, showed how some of the world’s most powerful people took their money offshore.
