Pakistan International Airline (PIA) employees strike has entered in fifth day as hundreds of flights have been suspended.
As the Pakistan International Airline (PIA) employees’ strike entered its fourth day, the protest began to take its toll on businesses at the airport along with the already suffering passengers.
Tuck shops and metro cab services have been left to deal with one-fourth of customers as only private airlines are flying in and out of the airport at the moment.
The private taxi companies, porters, and tuck shops, all eagerly await the restoration of PIA’s flight operations.
The strike is the latest in a months-long series of protests against the plan to sell off part of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), among companies the government has pledged to privatise under an International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal.
Once a source of pride for Pakistan, the loss-making carrier has been hit by frequent flight cancelations, and many of its aircraft have been cannibalized to keep others flying.
Despite government attempts to allay fears the privatisation could lead to mass layoffs, sporadic protests have continued.
