ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Tuesday assured British Prime Minister Theresa May of his support to work closely with her in achieving close bilateral relations in all fields.
The Prime Minister was talking to British Prime Minister Theresa May who phoned him. Prime Minister Sharif extended his warmest congratulations to the British Prime Minister on her historic appointment as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
He said her appointment to the office of Prime Minister reflected the faith and confidence, the people of UK had reposed in her ability to steer the country at this historic time.
The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that under her leadership and vision, Britain would become ever stronger and continue its important role in the world affairs, said a press release of the PM Office media wing.
The government and the people of Pakistan greatly value her long association with Pakistan, the Prime Minister said.
He said the United Kingdom was a traditional ally, a close friend and a trusted partner of Pakistan. Theresa May thanked the Prime Minister for his kind words and said that Pakistan was their dependable ally.
She assured the Prime Minister that both the countries would work together in the post-Brexit era and there would be no adverse effects on the bilateral relations after the UK exited European Union. She said Pakistan and the United Kingdom would work together as bilateral partners.
The United Kingdom was committed to work with Pakistan in security related matters and strengthening democracy, she added.
Theresa May said that the United Kingdom strongly supported the democratic system of Pakistan as development of Pakistan and development of democracy were interlinked.
She further said that she was eagerly waiting for her upcoming visit to Pakistan in the coming months as Prime Minister of UK.
The visit was previously scheduled when she was serving as British Home Secretary, she told.
