BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang will attend activities in the coming week, marking the opening of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) that give good hope to Pakistan and other developing countries to strengthen their infrastructure network.
AIIB has already expressed interest to finance infrastructure projects in Pakistan in various sectors including energy, transport, seaport and urban development.
President AIIB Jin Liqun in his recent visit to Islamabad said Pakistan had great potential in infrastructure sector, which will pave the way for sustainable economic development.
Liqun said the bank was looking forward for closer cooperation with Pakistan’s public and private sector.
It is hoped that the bank’s officials will be visiting Pakistan soon to discuss collaboration in different projects,” he added.
As per plan, the AIIB will work with other world institutions, including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank to achieve the objective of progress and prosperity.
In June last year, Pakistan had signed the articles of agreement (AoA) of the AIIB during a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
President Xi will attend and address the inaugurating ceremony in the morning of Jan. 16 while Li will address the founding conference of the AIIB council in the afternoon, Hua noted. The series of opening activities will last from Jan. 16 to 18.
The China-initiated development bank was formally established in Beijing on Dec. 25 of last year. The bank, headquartered in Beijing, now has 57 members.
