Pakistan, India foreign secretaries meet in New Delhi

NEW DELHI: In a fresh breakthrough between Pakistan and India, the foreign secretaries of the two countries met today on the sidelines of Heart of Asia conference in New Delhi.

Foreign secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry, who is leading Pakistan’s delegation to the Heart of Asia meeting — Istanbul Process, met his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar in the Indian capital, where subjects of mutual interests came under discussion, Indian media reported.

 “The meeting between Pakistan and Indian foreign secretaries provided a useful opportunity to exchange views on recent developments in bilateral context,” the Indian media quoted Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit as saying.

Earlier today, Aizaz Chaudhry arrived in New Delhi to take part in the Heart of Asia conference. Pakistan has continued to play an active role in the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process, which was established in 2011 as a platform to discuss regional issues, including security, economic cooperation and connectivity among Afghanistan, its neighbours, and regional countries, with the aim of promoting lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.
