Pakistan FO summons Afghan ambassador

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday summoned Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai to protest against blame game started with a series of allegations and media campaign to malign Pakistan by the Kabul government.

Pakistan FO in its recent statement said that the foreign secretary said that the series of baseless allegations would affect mutual confidence and bilateral ties of the neighbouring countries.

Janan Mosazai was told that the Pakistan government will continue its policy of restraint and responsibility and constructive engagement with Afghanistan.

“We expect that the Afghan government would also reciprocate by taking effective measures to obviate recurrence of such incidents on the border, and work with Pakistan to build mutual trust and good-neighbourly relations,” read the statement.

Moreover, FO also lodged strong protest against cross-border violations from the Afghan side on August 16 and 17 that resulted in the death of three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and wounded two others.

“The Afghan ambassador was conveyed that, as a matter of policy, Pakistani authorities do not initiate fire and return fire only in self-defence,” said the statement, while clarifying Afghan allegations that cross-border firing from Pakistan on Tuesday that left eight Afghan security officials in Kunar.

Earlier, Afghan leaders had levelled serious allegations at Pakistan for involvement in the recent spate of attacks in the capital city Kabul.
