Pakistan conforms to concept of credible minimum nuke deterrence: FO

Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Tasleem Aslam said that the country conformed to the concept of credible minimum deterrence.

FO spokesperson said, ‘ Pakistan is a responsible nuclear weapons state with a robust command and control structure headed by the Prime Minister. We strictly conforms to the concept of credible minimum deterrence.’

‘We do not want a conventional or nuclear arms race in South Asia. We have been compelled to develop a full spectrum deterrence capability to maintain regional stability and to deter aggression,’ she added.

She was answering the question of journalist over Senior Advisor Khalid Kidwai’s statement to to build tactical nuclear weapons in view of India’s nuclear doctrine.

Aslam said that Pakistan has concerns over constant violations of Kashmiris’ fundamental rights and Islamabad steadfast in principled stand of extending full moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri brothers in Indian Occupied Kashmir..

She added that raising Pakistani flag in Srinagar is the manifestation of the deep and lasting emotional bonds between the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir and the people of Pakistan. She said that the rally was peaceful while charges against the Kashmiri leadership  were ‘bogus and illegal’.

The spokesperson confirmed two-day official visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan on April 20-21, 2015. President Jinping would be accompanied by a high powered delegation and a number of important agreements MoUs were expected to be signed during the visit, she added.
