Pakistan Thursday condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violation by the Indian occupation forces along the Line of Control in the Chirikot Sector that led to the death of an innocent civilian in Trothi village.

The Acting Director General (SA & SAARC), summoned the Indian Acting Deputy High Commissioner here at the Foreign Office to condemn the incident in which one innocent civilian

M Shakeel embraced martyrdom on June 12.

The Indian diplomat was told that the deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas was indeed “deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws.”

“The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation,” a statement released from the Foreign Office said.

The Indian forces have been continuously targeting civilian populated areas along the Line of Control and the Working boundary. They carried out over 1100 ceasefire violations along the Line of Control and the Working Boundary, in 2018, leading to martyrdom of 29 civilians, and injuries to117 others.

This unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India is continuing from the year 2017, when the Indian forces committed 1970 ceasefire violations.

The Acting Director General (SA & SAARC) asked India to respect the 2003 Ceasefire arrangement; investigate all incidents of ceasefire violations; instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit, and maintain peace along the LoC and the Working Boundary.

He also asked India to permit the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
