ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi on Monday said Pakistan was deeply concerned over the continuing bloodshed and deteriorating security situation in Yemen and stressed that a stable and peaceful Yemen was imperative for regional and international peace.
In a meeting with Yemen’s newly appointed ambassador to Pakistan Mohammed Motahar Ali-Shabi here, the Special Assistant said there was a dire need to ensure that Yemen did not get further destabilized by terrorist groups.
SAPM Fatemi said Pakistan strongly condemned actions by the Houthis to overthrow the legitimate government in Yemen led by President Hadi.
He reiterated that Houthis should return to the negotiating table, for amicable settlement of all disputes.
The SAPM welcomed the Ambassador Motahar to Pakistan and wished him success in his new assignment.
Ambassador Motahar conveyed his government’s appreciation for Pakistan’s support for Yemen.
He expressed confidence that Pakistan-Yemen relations would continue to follow a positive trajectory.
He also apprised the SAPM on developments in Yemen. Issues of regional and international importance also came under discussion.
