ISLAMABAD: Transporters from Pakistan and Afghanistan  have succeeded in obtaining visa exemptions to cross the Torkham border.

According to Voice Of America report, the visa relaxation was approved after a meeting was held with Pakistani officials responsible for border affairs.

Business community terms the step as good gesture for the two countries. Talking to VOA, Khyber Transporters Association President Shakir Afridi said a 25-member delegation of Afghanistan transporters participated in the meeting which lasted for around two-and-a-half hours.

He said no other persons will be exempted from the visa.  It may be noted that the Torkham border was closed on May 10 for four days after Afghan forces blocked a Pakistani authorities’ move to fence their side of the border.
