ISLAMABAD: Cueist Babar Mashih, along with two officials will fly to Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday to feature in the Sangsom 6 Red World Championship that will roll into action there from September 5 to 10.
Babar will be accompanied by Vice President Pakistan Billiard and Snooker Association (PBSA) Jawed Karim (delegate) and Shabbir Hussain (officiating referee), Alamgir A. Shaikh, president PBSA told APP on Friday.
He said that a total of 36 cueists from different countries would take part in the 6-day event.
“There are eight groups in the event A, B,C,D,E,F,G and H. Babar, who has been placed in group E will take on Egypt’s Hashem in his first encounter,” Shaikh said.
Four top players from each group will qualify for the knockout last 32 stage. There will be no re-draw at the end of robin stage and the qualifiers will be placed in slots.
The championship carries a total prize purse of eight million baht, the Thai currency. The winner of the event will pocket 2.5 million baht, while the runner-up will get one million baht.
The semi-finalists will be given 0.5 million baht. There will also be prize money for quarter-finalists and other position-holders.
