Islamabad: The opposition has stepped up efforts to thwart a constitutional amendment to hold Senate elections by open ballot.

Leaders of the PPP, PML-N and JUI-F had contacts regarding the Senate elections in which the strategy of blocking the approval of the amendment from both the houses was considered.

Sources said that the opposition has decided that the constitutional amendment regarding holding of Senate elections through open ballot will not be allowed to be passed by both the houses.

According to sources, the opposition parties will hold further consultations in this regard before the National Assembly session on Monday.
