Ombudsman presents reports on police, jail reforms to CM

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to introduce police and jail reforms by taking drastic steps. In this regard the reports prepared by the federal Ombudsman reports would be of a great help.

This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah while holding an important meeting with the federal ombudsman Salman Farooqui at the CM House here Friday.

Those who attended the meeting include former IG Malik Asif Hayat, former ambassador Aneesuddin, former Chief secretary Shakeel Durani and Secretary federal Ombusman Pir Bux Jamali. The chief minister was assisted by his advisor on Law Murtaza Wahab, IG Police AD Khowja, Home Secretary Shakeel Mangnijo, IG Jail Nusrat Mangnijo.

Federal Ombudsman Salman Farooqui said that his establishment has conducted a detailed survey of the facilities and issues in the prisons of the country, including of Sindh. He added that there must be some separate treatment and dealing for juvenile and first time offenders.

Mr Farooqui also said that the reports on police say that the police stations have never been given their allocations of funds.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that he has planned jail reforms and reforms in police for which drastic measure would be made. “I had plan to introduce the reforms just after taking over as chief minister but the problems were enormous, therefore work on reforms has been delayed but it must be done,” he assured.

The Ombudsman presented reports on jail and police reforms to the chief minister.
