Doha: Qatar has abandoned the sponsorship system (kafala) and fixed a minimum wage at 1,000 Qatari riyals for migrant workers.
The new minimum wage of 1,000 Qatari riyals will be applicable to all sectors and workers from all nationalities.
After the development, Qatar has become the first country in the Gulf region to introduce the non-discriminatory minimum wage.
Now the migrant workers will not require to get a permission from their employers to switch jobs.
The foreign workers, under the new law, will be able to switch their jobs before the deadline of their work contracts without obtaining an NOC from their existing employers.
