Gaming giant Nintendo has confirmed that its first game for a smartphone will be announced soon.

Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima said that details will be revealed at the company’s second quarter investment meeting in a couple of days in Japan.

Most recent financial results show relatively good news for the company, as they plan to unveil their new venture.

‘We are not sure if this will be an existing franchise, a port from console or something wholly new. Analysts have said to expect the unexpected so we would be fools for trying to expect anything,’ Kimishima said.

July to September is not exactly the busiest time in the video games calendar but Nintendo’s results from the period still show some positive news – most importantly the fact that they managed to stay in profit.

Worldwide they sold 720,000 Wii U consoles during the last three months, bringing the Wii U’s lifetime total to 10.7 million. The 3DS managed to sell 2.28 million portable consoles in six months, for a new total of 54.34 million.

Also today, Sony revealed that PlayStation 4 sales are now ‘well over’ 25 million, with their console having been released a year later than the Wii U. There is still no official figure for the Xbox One though, and Microsoft refuses to release one. However, unofficial estimates put it at around 14.5 million, after also releasing one year later than the Wii U.
