Former New Zealand cricketer and commentator Danny Morrison has said the new and emerging talent from Pakistan Super League (PSL) will boost Pakistan cricket.
“When you’ve got all these franchise T20 leagues, a lot of the people like to look at the superstars,” Morrison said while speaking to Geo News. “But I like to watch the youngsters coming through, the guys who maybe have played one or two PSL’s.”
When asked which youngster has impressed him in this year’s tournament, the 53-year-old New Zealand native said, Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf.
“I mean look at Shadab. He is only 20 and he has already filled in as captain for Islamabad United,” Morrison said. “Haris is another one who has impressed me as a spinner for Lahore Qalandars.”
He added, he had always been impressed and enjoys watching the raw talent that is found and developed from the rural areas. “Lot to be excited about, especially the spinners,” he added.
Resending to a question regarding the talent hunt programs conducted by franchises, Morrison said, they very important. “You need to give the youth something aspire about.”
“Hats off to the Rana brothers, especially Sameen who developed the programme and getting the youngsters to do something,” he added. “It’s about giving and growth in the game.”
Morrison also revealed who he’s rooting for to be in the final four of this year’s tournament.
“Quetta looks like a very good side and of course I love Peshawar Zalmi with its West Indies flavour of Darren Sammy and Kieron Pollard. Karachi are good as well and I’m looking at Lahore who finished at the bottom in the last three tournaments to see if they can make the playoffs this time around,” he shared.
Morrison also said he is looking forward to visiting Pakistan once again. “It will be great and exciting to get back,” he said.
