New Pindi commissioner rejects rigging charges levelled by his predecessor

RAWALPINDI: Newly-appointed Rawalpindi Commissioner Saif Anwar Jappa, who has been appointed in place of Liaquat Ali Chatta, held a press conference along with the DROs of Jhelum, Attock and Chakwal.

Addressing the press conference, Commissioner Saif Anwar Jappa denied all the allegations of rigging levelled by the former commissioner.

Jappa told reporters that a commissioner had no connection in the recent elections except for coordination. An independent inquiry should be conducted into the allegations, he urged.

On the occasion, the Rawalpindi’s district returning officer demanded an inquiry into the charges of the former commissioner and said that the recent elections were conducted in a very transparent and fair manner. He said that there was no pressure on us.

The DC Chakwal further said that there was no pressure in the elections, rejecting the allegations of the former commissioner.

DRO, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum Chakwal and Talagang said that there was no irregularity in making the election transparent. In all the constituencies, the election were conducted transparent and without any pressure.

He said that the allegations of the former commissioner Rawalpindi are baseless and false. He denied the allegations, saying there was no pressure. The Election Commission of Pakistan should launch a probe into the matter and brought out the truth, he added.
