Nepal earthquake: death toll reaches 8,635

KATHMANDU: Disasters of horrific earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25 have not stopped as death toll up to 8,635 including 79 foreigners, Nepal police said in a statement on Saturday.

Police statistics revealed that over 300 people including 89 foreigners and 240 Nepal nationals were still missing after completion of rescue and search operations conducted by 2,509 military personnel from 18 countries.

Nepal Army said that 1,807 foreign military personnel were still present in the country and started preparation to return to their countries.

The 7.9-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on April 25 and another measuring 7.3 on the Richter Scale on May 12 have claims lives of 8,635, injured 21,845 and affected over tens of thousands of houses. Aftershocks of the quake have not yet stopped as 4 to 5 magnitude tremors were also recorded on April 22, 2015 (yesterday).
